Ways to prevent teen pregnancy

Each year in the United States, approximately three million children are born as the result of unplanned pregnancy. About half of all women will experience an unplanned pregnancy at some point in their lives, but what they don’t know is that there is help available if they feel truly lost. In fact, about 4% of women in the U.S. are pregnant at any given time, and there’s a good chance that many don’t know about the resources that they have access to in their communities.

Whether you’re a teen who is pregnant for the first time or a young woman who is unsure what her next move is in life, you can benefit from the many services found at a free pregnancy help center. Here are just three things you can expect from these organizations:

  • Free Pregnancy Tests: One of the first things a woman will need to do when she notices some of the early warning signs of pregnancy is get tested. If you’re unable to procure a test on your own, or if you are unsure of or nervous about how to use one, you can check out a local pregnancy help center to get a pregnancy test for free. In addition to testing for pregnancy, some centers will also offer free ultrasounds and other procedures.
  • Thorough Information on Pregnancy: Although most girls and women have learned about reproduction in health classes, there’s a lot of information that may get glossed over in school. If several years have gone by, you may need a refresher course on what to expect during pregnancy. A helpful adult and teen pregnancy center should be able to deliver sound information to you, so you understand exactly what your body is going through.
  • Compassionate Guidance and Advice: No matter where you are in your life, you are likely going through a very difficult and confusing time. Sometimes what really matters is just having someone to talk to. When you receive free pregnancy tests and help in a women-centered facility, you can be sure that you’ll have a helping hand to guide you through this event. Accept nothing other than kindness and compassion as you turn to these resources.
