What most people don’t realize is that you should always contact your primary doctor first unless the situation is severe. If you need care more urgently or you need more aggressive care, that’s when you should seek out one of the other options. Urgent care is the best place to go when you need care sooner than your doctor can provide. They are best at treating things like sprains, broken bones, minor cuts and burns, and minor illnesses. The ER is better for anything more serious than those examples. They can handle more complex situations, such as strokes, seizures, major injuries, poisonings, and assaults. Keep in mind that most urgent care centers don’t provide mental health services. Always call 911 for any life-threatening situations.
